Bargaining

Where We Are in the Bargaining Process

We are currently in conciliation, an important step in the collective bargaining process under the Canada Labour Code.

What is Conciliation?

Conciliation is a 60-day process intended to assist the Union and Company in reaching a collective agreement. The 60 day period can be extended if both parties mutually agree to an extension.

If an agreement is not reached during conciliation and the parties do not agree to extend the process, the parties move into a 21-day cooling-off period as provided for under the Canada Labour Code.

During this time, bargaining continues.

Maintenance of Activities

The Bargaining Committee and the Company have also discussed Maintenance of Activities, sometimes referred to as essential services.

Under the Canada Labour Code, maintenance of activities refers to the continuation of services, operations or facilities that are necessary to prevent an immediate and serious danger to the safety or health of the public during a legal work stoppage.

The Union and Company have discussed this issue as part of the bargaining process.
